Did you know? - Introduced in 2003 by Sony and JVC, it let filmmakers shoot HD on standard MiniDV cassettes.  Major TV shows and documentaries used HDV in the 2000s. Deadliest Catch? Yes, shot partially in HDV. And it played nice with early HD editing software — helping bridge the gap between analog-era tape and digital-era editing.
